BRI healthcare policies

POST-EVENT SUMMARY: Three SLU-BRI chapter officers, Alex Wisbeck, Erick Sink, and Kevin Huynh presented the 2016 Republican and Democratic presidential candidates’ healthcare plans to 28 mostly first year medical school attendees at this pizza lunch meeting. The presentation lasted 30 minutes, which left 20 minutes for questions.

Fellow students were interested in the presentation, and as a result we had quite a few questions about the candidates’ specific policies and also about healthcare policy in general.

“I thought that this lunch discussion went very well. My fellow junior officers and I learned a bit while researching the candidates. Also, because we left a lot of time for questions and because our presentation was delivered as peers and not as an expert panel, we felt that many more questions were asked and elaborated upon. I think this type of set up facilitates discussions with medical students, especially those who are relatively new to topics in healthcare policy and may be hesitant to speak up in other settings.” ~Kevin Huynh, presenter and BRI chapter officer
