Wait-til-ITs-Free---webColin Gunn's 2014 documentary on the perils of government sponsored healthcare will be screened. Wait Til It's Free is "A provocative documentary film that takes a hard and honest look at the way we do healthcare in America.

The film looks at everything from the escalating cost of health insurance to the move towards socialized medicine - and some alternatives which preserve the doctor-patient relationship while providing quality care at affordable prices.

A discussion of the film will follow.

Lecture: Dr. Timothy Von Fange, MD, Family Practice and Sports Medicine,  will be speaking on the medical innovations in sports medicine, and how those innovations could not take place without the free market. He will also be speaking on the differences between primary care and specialized healthcare in sports medicine.

Dr. Eberl will be lecturing on the ethics portrayed in the Hippocratic Oath, along with talking about the role it plays in medicine today. He will also discuss other current perspectives of medical ethics in healthcare.

Marian University — BRI Euchre Tournament Fundraiser

Take a break from studying, eat some food, play some Euchre ... maybe talk about healthcare innovations, ethics, economics, or policy?

The MUCOM BRI Chapter Euchre Tournament will be a fundraising/charity event. Each team will be charged $10 to enter the tournament, $5 for individuals. 50% of the tournament entrance fees will go to the winning team's charity of choice, PLUS eternal bragging rights for having won the first ever MUCOM Euchre Tournament! The other 50% will go to the MUCOM BRI Chapter to fund future speakers and events.

Open to all students, faculty, friends, parents, grandparents, etc. Pick your best Euchre partner(s)!

Tournament details: There will be 30 minutes of pool play to allow people to warm up or learn how to play. We will then proceed into a single elimination tournament.

Registration: Please register before the day of the tournament. Team name, team members, $10, name of charity for donation. Individuals: Your name, $5.

Please join us  for a late afternoon lecture over soft drinks to hear Dr. Richard B. Gunderman discuss how freedom in medicine directly affects our quality of life. Exactly how does freedom enrich life, of which medicine is just one aspect? Dr. Gunderman is Chancellor’s Professor of Radiology, Pediatrics, Medical Education, Philosophy, Liberal Arts, Philanthropy, and Medical Humanities and Health Studies at Indiana University. We think he'll have some thought-provoking things to say.

Please join us for an enlightening lecture by Dr. Jonathan Schmidt from Priority Physicians. Dr. Schmidt will discuss Direct Primary Care, Concierge medicine, and a hybrid schmidt1model. He will further explain how insurance, medicare, medicaid, and RVUs work as well. This will be an informal lecture with lots of time for questions.

Dr. Jonathan P. Schmidt is a board certified physician in family medicine. He received his undergraduate degree in Microbiology from Southern Illinois University and went on to the University of Illinois where he received his doctor of medicine degree. Upon graduation, Dr. Schmidt moved to South Bend, IN, where he completed his family medicine residency at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident in his final year.

Dr. Schmidt sought out experience in direct practice medicine during his residency and is excited to be practicing in a way that allows him to put the needs of his patients first. In his free time, Dr. Schmidt enjoys spending time with his wife Cristal, son Kiptyn and daughter Kenley. He also enjoys being outdoors and participating in water sport activities.

The Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine - BRI Chapter will be pairing up with the Thomas More Society and Operation Leftover to meet and serve the homeless and impoverished in Indianapolis. We will meet at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church to take canned foods, warm clothing, personal hygiene items, and other appropriate donations to people in need around downtown Indianapolis.

ALL are welcome and invited to join us in an evening of service. Donations are also appreciated.
