POST-EVENT SUMMARY: Fifteen students came out on a Sunday afternoon for this discussion.
“The topic of the panel discussion hosted by our BRI chapter was whether or not we should move toward a single-payer system. The side arguing for free markets was represented by myself and our VP, Gabriel Banschick. The opposing side was represented by a Canadian Sackler student Alexey Gurevich, and Rachel Frenklak, an American Sackler student who strongly supports socialization of medicine.
“Given our unique situation being abroad in Israel, our targeted audience for the event was fellow first year Sackler students, although we did also pull in a second year student. The Q&A portion had some good questions directed at our side of the panel, and I think we did a good job of handling the concerns of these fellow classmates. After the event, a number of them approached me and thanked our chapter for putting on this discussion (these being classmates who are known to be ideologically opposed to our position).”~Jordan Halevy, BRI-Sackler founder and president
“Thanks for putting on this event. I appreciated your responses in the Q&A; they really gave me something to think about.”~MS1
“It’s important that people are talking about the issues.”~MS1
