University of California, Irvine School of Medicine—PANEL DISCUSSION: Direct Primary Care and Its Relevance for Medical Students

November 14, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

All are welcome to attend a discussion with Dr. Emilie Scott & Dr. James Gaor of Halcyon Health. What is Direct Primary Care (DPC), and how is it relevant to medical students? Dr. Scott will speak about her primary care practice, which uses the direct primary care business model. In this model, patients pay an initial enrollment fee and then a monthly fee for primary care services. We think you’ll want to know about this non-traditional and expanding method of delivering quality, affordable care without insurance companies or government middlemen getting between patients and doctors.

POST-EVENT SUMMARY: Thirty-one (31) interested students and members of the UC-Irvine community came to the meeting, underscoring the great interest and draw this topic has for medical students. Dr. Scott and her husband, Dr. Gaor, provided an amazing platform to openly discuss her practice, story and passion for her patients.

We also had the chance to talk about the Primary Care practice modeled as a non-profit, so that can all patients have access: those who can pay, those with limited ability to pay, or those who are uninsured, or even undocumented or lack ongoing access to quality care.
